flames of fire from angel

“And (Christ Jesus) came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.” Ephesians 2:17-18

The Bible speaks of many aspects of “spirits” and events related to them. 1 John 4:1-3 tells us to test the “Spirit” to see if the words being spoken to you are of the “Spirit” of God, the “Spirit” of a false prophet or the “Spirit” of the antichrist. Mark 1:23-26 speaks of an unclean “Spirit” (demon) being cast out of a man by Jesus, and “tearing him” as it left. Matt 12:43-44 and Luke 11:24 speak of unclean “Spirits” (demons) being cast out of a person, but if the person does not fill their body, soul, and “Spirit” with the word of God and a clean living, those unclean “Spirits” will return with seven more and take back over the person.

1 Samuel 16:14 speaks of Saul. Saul had turned his back on God and had become very jealous of David (who would be King). Saul tried to destroy David on many occasions, only to fail. This scripture states “But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.” I find this passage to be very unsettling. Can a person be anointed by God to rule a land, or pastor a church, or care for a flock, with the “Spirit” of God leading them, and then fall so deep into deception that God removes His anointing and replaces it with an evil “Spirit?” Based upon this scripture the answer would be “yes.” No man, however powerful he may be, is untouchable by the hand of God. One day a King, the next day a mad man, filled with evil “Spirits.”

But, our hope is in the second chapter of Acts, the day of Pentecost. The day when the “Spirit” of God came down on the 12 disciples, praying all together in one accord, since the day of the crucifixion of Jesus. Acts 2:2-4: “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the “Spirit” gave them utterance.” After that day they became a mighty team, sharing the gospel, praying for the sick, and on that very day of Pentecost, by the powerful words working through them, they received the commitment to the Gospel of 3000 people, baptizing them in the Name of Jesus. Glory!

The group broke away into teams and traveled all over the kingdom to preach the gospel and share the ministry of Jesus. In our Ephesian passage, Paul takes us back to the works of Jesus and the gift we all have through Him. His powerful words give us strength to continue forward, knowing that God has our very interest in His hand.

And (Christ Jesus) came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him (Jesus) we both have access by one Spirit (Holy Spirit) unto the Father (God). Ephesians 2:17-18

No matter how far we have strayed away, He will send someone to find us and show us the way back. If we are near to God but hurting, He will send someone with a word of comfort and strength. If we have allowed evil “Spirits” to enter out life, He will send the Holy “Spirit” to cleanse us and provide a new avenue through prayer, directly to the throne room. And through it all, no matter how far we have fallen away, if we pray, believing, the Holy “Spirit” will deliver our prayers directly to the ear of God.

TO BE 50

17 Sep

Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and depise not thy mother when she is old.

Proverbs 23:22 KJV

Oh, what enjoyment to be 50.

At the stroke of midnight,

I went from rebellious to eccentric,

Opinionated to wise,

Distant to decisive.

I’ve seen the joy of a new century,

And remember the fear of nuclear fall-out.

Saw a man walk on the moon,

Which disproved a childhood belief,

That the moon was a ball of green cheese.

I’ve seen skirts go up, and down, and up again,

And pants that bell, then snuggle, and bell again.

I’ve started a life without TV

And now enjoy home theatre,

In my own living room.

I started with out-houses,

And ended up with 2 wonderful bathrooms,

One totally “Mickey” and one totally “Sports”.

As long as the water continues to go down,

And not come back up,

They can stay in the house.

I’ve grown up to big bands,

Country/Western,

Folk Songs,

Rock & Roll,

And Rap.

I’ve heard it loud, I’ve heard it soft

I prefer it soft.

I’ve seen my children born and grow,

Laugh and cry.

I’ve seen things that were once

So important to me,

Rest in boxes headed for a thrift shop.

I’ve found the value of a 2-hour nap,

And the treasure of eating out.

I still love reading a good book,

While sitting in front of a warm fire,

If it’s winter.

A cool air conditioner,

If it’s summer.

And out on the deck if it’s spring.

Have I changed?

Maybe a little over the years.

But, I still wear Mickey Mouse shirts

And Eeyore overalls.

I have overindulged in surrounding myself

With pets,

Still treasure my family,

And covet my “free” time.

What has changed?

The way you look at me.

I slipped quietly into the next level of life,

And it made this wild ole’ grandma acceptable,

With just the stroke of a clock.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be accepted

Without having to grow old?

GRACE

12 Apr

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”    Psalm 84:11

Ever so gently, the Spirit comes,

gently calling, gently waking,

the sleeping soul.

Awake, Beloved, Arise,

join with me in sweet refreshing,

precious moments, you and I.”

And though I try,

to fight the weariness,

I fall again,

to senseless sleep..

Awake, Beloved, Arise,

rest in the peace only I can give.”

My soul rocks,

battered by my own strengths,

by my own weaknesses.

The angels of light,

war with the angels of darkness,

fighting for the rights,

to my blessing.

Again I try to rise,

“Grace” – “Grace”

for spiritual strength,

to fight the demons,

that take their positions,

to stop the Rhema,

about to birth.

“Grace” – “Grace”

And with my cry,

a change begins,

a pounding pulse,

a surge of fire,

a rising up,

to the Spirit of truth.

In sweet communion,

with the one true Lord,

all weariness passes.

Refreshing of Spirit,

refreshing of soul,

no weakened limb,

just tender moments,

in anointed splendor.

Arise, My Beloved,

and receive the gift,

I’ve so longed,

for you to have.

GRACE!

FORGIVENESS

5 Apr

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: Matthew 6:14

There’s a fire deep inside,

That spreads,

That dwindles,

That spreads.

No one else can see it,

No one else can feel it,

But it eats like a canker,

Into my peace.

Someone set the fuel in place,

Another provided the spark,

But I set the flame,

I keep it alive.

It isn’t a warming thing,

Based on love,

Although it replaced love,

A long time ago.

It is a burning thing,

Based on hate,

I can’t let go of,

I won’t let go.

And though I know,

Others can sense it,

Others shy from it,

I am the only one,

Who truly suffers.

As much as I want,

To be free of this sin,

It beckons me back,

It calls me friend.

It keeps me from growth,

It harnesses my joy,

It alters my path,

It chains me to me.

Lord, help me forgive,

The pains of the past,

That I might have freedom,

To live.

A LITTLE BIT MORE

3 Nov

I will declare your righteousness and your salvation every day, though I do not fully understand what the outcome will be.  Lord God, I will come in the power of your mighty acts, remembering your righteousness—yours alone.    Psalm 71:15-16

Lord, in my temptations you hold me,

Thru sorrows and tears You are there.

When all of the world is against me,

I truthfully know that You care.

As each day unfolds I find trials,

And burdens to heavy to bare.

I humbly come in Your presence,

And lay them before You in prayer.

I’m nothing without You beside me,

You teach me Your words that I share.

When falling, I pray that You’ll guide me,

And I’ll shine just a little bit more.

Lord, each day you give life new meaning,

My old life’s a memory gone past;

My worldly possessions lose value,

Your love is all that will last.

You touch me each morning with fire,

And rivers of water run thru;

I can’t even think of tomorrow,

Without knowing that I have You.

You’ve lifted me out of dark shadows,

And endless confusion and strife;

Your mercy and grace has renewed me,

And shown me the beauty of life.

Lord, now has come time to witness,

And share the beauty I’ve found;

It’s happiness, free for the asking,

Where joy and blessings abound.

I’ll teach with honest persuasion,

Myself, an example of praise;

Teaching Your word and Your promise,

Your miracles, works and sound faith.

I’ll conquer if You stand beside me,

No enemy dares to cause harm;

Your children will follow in victory,

Wrapped in Your arms safe and warm.

STONES OF FIRE

28 Jul

When I heard of the Stones of Fire I prayed, “Lord, what are they?”

He said, “They are the tears of God.”

“I don’t understand,” I said, “teach me, Lord.”

Stones of fire,

colors so vibrant,

the intensity of God’s Spirit,

fighting to escape the stone’s housing,

yet trapped there,

to please the eye,

of all who gaze.

He placed His throne,

and rested his feet,

upon brilliant Sapphire,

purged with fire and time,

blue as the deepest sea,

vast as the clearest sky;

this was the third Heaven.

As a lover gives his beloved,

or a father gives his child,

a most precious gift,

God gave His treasure,

a city built upon,

the stones of fire.

In His richness He gave all beauty,

to make a sacred court.

The foundations of the city,

were of the purest stone,

of Jasper, Sapphire and Chalcedony,

Emerald, Sardonyx and Sardius,

Chrysolite, Beryl and Topaz,

Chrysoprasus, Jacinth and Amethyst.

Twelve foundations,

for twelve children to come,

soon to be nations,

then kings and priests.

Children to be raised,

in a perfect Eden,

guarded by angels,

perfection at every glance,

ruler of all they could see.

Yet, in the third Heaven,

where archangels commune with God,

and gold paves the streets,

as pure as crystal glass,

a cry was heard,

as God shed a tear.

The third Heaven wasn’t enough,

for Lucifer.

He was the most perfect creation,

to ever walk in the Heavens of God.

He was the most beautiful of all angels,

adorned in the precious stones,

that Heaven was founded on.

His voice sang the arias,

as an orchestra,

he was the most anointed,

the most wise,

until his beauty,

beguiled his own heart,

and iniquity became his god.

Refusing to serve,

demanding the highest kingdom,

Lucifer fell,

cast from the splendor of Heaven,

pulled down by the weight,

cursed with the fire,

that charged the beauty,

of the precious stones,

he proudly wore.

Down in a wilderness,

walked 12 nations,

trying to purge their lives,

of desire and deceit.

Set over an Ephod,

secured to the Breastplate,

carried on the shoulders,

of the High Priest,

were 12 stones.

Each stone for a nation,

in four rows of three,

according to their birth.

On the top was the Sardius, Topaz and Carbuncle,

then was the Emerald, Sapphire and Diamond,

next was the Ligure, Agate and Amethyst,

last was the Beryl, Onyx and Jasper,

held at the top and the sides,

by pure gold.

Once again God’s pride,

was adorned by His precious gift.

All seemed well until the days,

man’s faith-filled leader,

took time with God.

And in their time,

of precious communion,

the Ephod was laid aside,

as the nations of promise,

build a golden glistening calf,

they could see.

Moses heard the cry,

as God shed a tear.

Jealousy raged,

in the vibrant foundations,

of Heaven.

And Moses cried out,

for the souls of the lost,

as iniquity reigned once again,

in the earth.

Stones of fire,

shown again,

in the crowns of the kings,

that ruled over the nations.

Crowns of the righteous,

killed by the crowns of the wicked,

coveting the beauty,

of the precious glowing stones.

Then, in that last day,

as the Mystery Babylon,

walks the corrupted streets,

of earth,

no one will buy her merchandise.

Not the gold or silver,

precious stones or fine linen,

not the horses, chariots or slaves,

not the souls of men.

Finally the nations will see,

that the soul cannot share,

the beauty meant for the eye.

Beauty meant to be enjoyed,

to enhance,

to appreciate.

The stones of fire,

a wedding gift,

from the God of creation,

changed into a god,

by the lusts of man.

Gazing on their fiery beauty,

we wonder at the value,

the prestige,

and forget the covenant of love,

for which they stand.

The birth of a child,

the birth of a nation,

a covenant of love,

sealed by the signet,

of a fiery stone.

A marriage of two people,

two nations,

two entities;

destined to find perfection,

in the confines of Heaven.

So they wait,

undefiled,

in the third Heaven,

where angels and cherubim,

commune with,

the one true God.

INFERNO

7 Jul

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:   -1 Peter 1:7

Here I stand,

Safe in the hand of God,

Kissed by a gentle breeze,

Cooled by the living water,

Of the Spirit.

All around me rages an inferno,

To my right, to my left,

Directly in my path.

The bowels of hell,

Threatening death,

Always testing my faith,

But held away,

By my closest friend, my savior.

Here I stand,

And here I will stay,

Until I hear the voice of God,

Directing my steps,

To reach the lost,

With His precious love.

New Life

30 Jun

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: 1 Peter 1:7 (KJV)

Recently a fire broke out between the north and southbound lanes of the main highway through Arizona.  The fire had traveled a good mile and had jumped the freeway (2 lanes wide) on both the east and west sides of the freeway.  As I passed through, the smoke still lingered and firefighters were walking through with shovels and pick axes to be sure the smoldering embers didn’t reignite.

Each week the remainder of the all-consuming properties of fire played in my mind . . . except for that one green bush about a third of the way in from the south, just sitting there, green and untouched.  About a month after the fire the rains came and a most amazing thing happened; in the middle of the charred blackness sprouted small green leaves. Out of darkness came life.

Like our deadness, our pain, and our sin, when the Holy Spirit sprinkles us with the water from the river of life, we sprout and grow new life.  We become like the tree planted by the waters, bringing forth shade and good fruit.

As satan sends forth his fires of destruction, God’s children walk across the blackness sipping the water that will make them thirst no more.  As their heels lift from the ash strewn, blackened ground, tiny leaves sprout up in its shadow, before the next step is even taken; soon to provide good fruit.

Lord, let us never be afraid to speak Your refreshing Word to a dry and thirsty world.

The Fire Within

30 Oct

Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the LORD descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently.”   Exodus 19:18 NIV

My wood burning stove and I have a love-hate relationship.  When it is cooperating I love it; wonderful dry warmth.  However, when I don’t have the fire building components right, it becomes the subject of several hours of frustration. The Fire Triangle represents the 3 simple components that ensure continued combustion, or a nice warm fire.  The components consist of flame, oxygen and a continued source of fuel.  Ah, fuel!!  Therein lies the problem.

So, first goes in the paper, then bits of cardboard, next small branches or twigs, and then split log on top.  The perfect building blocks for a solid fire . . . except that the split logs wouldn’t burn.  At the onset of cold weather we’d had many dry months; the wood was dry and easy to start.  Then came several tropical storms, and although the wood wasn’t openly in the rain, the ends became damp and the wood absorbed the thick humidity hanging in the air.

I would start up a fire, watch it flare and roar, close the door, set the flue, and walk away.  Within a few minutes I would realize that the fire had gone completely out.  The fire had consumed all of the viable fuel, but the damp split logs were not viable.

I added more paper, cardboard and twigs, encourage the flames with the billows, would get it roaring, and then close the door.  Once again it went out.  This repeated over and over again, often for hours.  Each time the split log would get a little drier and start to smolder in spots.  After many, many starts the log would finally get dry enough to actually ignite and burn.

I started thinking about how much that sounded like the journeys of our faith?  We start out with hearts on fire and great expectations, but our components aren’t complete.  We need the daily building of the Word inside to keep the fire of the Holy Spirit burning brightly.  We need encouragers, teachers and mentors to build our foundation.  What we allow to come into our lives, our eyes, our ears, our mind, can absorb into that foundation and dampen our spirits, causing our fire to smolder or go completely out.

With my wood burning stove I have discovered that I have the best results in starting a new fire if I never to allow the embers of the previous fire to go completely cold.  Tossing a small branch in the stove and closing down the flue will allow the embers to smolder underneath the soft ashes for many hours.  When it is time for the new fire, I only need to remove the ash and set the new split log onto the embers.  The embers will dry the wood and ignite the log after a period of time.  The firefighters talk about this phenomena, it’s called a “flare up.”  Flare up is very dangerous in campfires and forest fires, but it is not dangerous in my fireplace – and it is absolutely not dangerous in my faith.

Do you feel as if you have spiritually grown cold?  Do you feel that the faith you once had has left you in the aftermath of testing and trials?  God tells us that He will never leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6), and that His Spirit will consume us, fill us and guide us as we allow it (Hebrews 12:29).  He’s right there under the ash of burned away days, traveled roads and deep disappointments; a burning ember waiting to rekindle the faith we so desire.  Rebuild your foundation.  Reignite through prayer and study.  Your flame will draw many.

“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:”  1 Peter 1:7

 —-

In the eye of the storm,

The flame of faith,

Flickers and dims,

Holding perilously,

To yesterday’s truths;

Praying.

 —-

Satan’s doubt,

Quenches the flame,

Reducing it to an ember,

As the storm tarries.

 —-

A cry for help,

Faint, but heard.

 —-

Then, in a moment,

The flame surges,

Grows, strengthens,

When joined by the faith,

Of interceding saints,

Building a firewall,

Of committed prayer,

That banishes doubt,

And fuels the flame,

With the testimony of miracles.

 —-

Stand with me,

When the cutting winds blow,

Then I will be strengthened,

And ready to join with you,

When another saint’s flame,

Begins to dim.
