His Workmanship

21 Aug

fruit of spirit

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God afore prepared that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 (ASV)

We are God’s workmanship. Whether we are white, brown, black, yellow or red – we are God’s workmanship. Whether we were born in a perfect body or an imperfect body, with a perfect mind or a mind that few can break through to, we are God’s workmanship. We were created for a purpose and a call within the specific parameters of our birth, we were not born by accident, we were not shaped by a curse, we are all God’s workmanship.

Psalm 139:13-14 states clearly: “For thou didst form my inward parts: Thou didst cover me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks unto thee; For I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Wonderful are thy works; And that my soul knoweth right well.” God knew us before the beginning of time (2 Timothy 1:9). He knew the hour we would be born, the challenges we would face and the path that He set before us. He (God) created us in His image, male and female both (Genesis 1:27), no man can take away that image for it is God created (Genesis 9:6). He predestined us to be who we would be, foreordained to a call, conformed to the image of His Son (Acts 1:8). In fact in Romans 8:30 God states: “Moreover whom He did predestinate, them He also called: and whom He called, them He also justified: and whom He justified, them He also glorified.”

So how can that be?? Can we believe that ALL are created in His image, regardless of physical and mental abilities? Are we to believe that all races and creeds and colors are made in His image? ALL? Romans 8:28 states: “And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to His purpose.” In 2 Timothy 1:9 it says that these perfect gifts were given to us “in Christ Jesus before times eternal.”

What is His Image? How can every person, every living human being, be made in His Image? The answers come in the scriptures themselves. The Image of God is not the outward appearance, it is the Spirit, the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). “The LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7 KJV).

God formed Jesus and gave Him the looks of an average man for a reason. “For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: He hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him” (Isaiah 53:2). God did not want people to follow Jesus because of his outward appearance, for it is only temporal. God wanted people to feel the depth of Jesus through His Spirit, His Soul. He was of “no reputation” (Philippians 2:5-11). Paul states that we should not look on the “outward appearance” as we can be deceived by charismatic leaders. But we are to look for Christ’s attributes (2 Corinthians 10:7).

To be in God’s Image we must emulate His behaviors and patterns. Jesus stated that we will receive the “Power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you,” then we would be able to take the gospel to the world (Acts 1:8). Once we have the “power,” we will be able to do “greater works” than Jesus did when He walked the earth (John 14:12). To get there Jesus shows us that we must learn to pray, pray until you hear from Father God (Romans 15:30; 1 Philippians 1:19; Colossians 1:3; Matthew 6:6; Matthew 6:9-13; Luke 18:1-8). We are to pray in groups for strength in prayers (Deuteronomy 26:7-8; Isaiah 56:7; II Chronicles 7:14), but there are also times that we are to pray in solitude, a simple time of relationship with Father God (Matthew 6:5; Matthew 14:23). The power through prayer is given to those who commit their lives to following Christ and receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, at that point their faith and their understanding begins to grown (Matthew 11:25-26).

To be seen in the Image of God, we must walk in the fruits of His Spirit (Galatians 5:22-25), we must walk in the fruits of His Righteousness (Ephesians 5:9; James 3:18; Philippians 1:11), we must walk in the Spirit of Truth (John 16:13), and in the Fruit of Holiness (Romans 6:22). Then we will honor God with the fruit of our lips (Hebrews 13:15), speaking to Him and listening to Him through the gift of relationship through prayer.

We walk daily in His Image. How clearly He is seen in us depends upon our decision to be more like Him. Jesus was “attractive” not because of His outward appearance, but because of the love, peace, gifts and fruits that shown through Him. The people could look into His eyes and see the Spirit of God. We are made in His image, but we make the decision on how much of God we want to look like. Hallelujah! Will you share “Christ in You, the Hope of Glory” (Colossians 1:27)? Will you humbly and powerfully show that you are made in the Image of God? Will you be an excellent example of the Workmanship of God?

The Mystery

2 Aug

Hands with Light Shining - Mystery

Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: Ephesians 1:9 (ASV)

Back when I was growing up there wasn’t anything better than a good Mystery to fill a Saturday night. I didn’t have TV until I was almost 10, and there were very few shows; reading filled my spare time and sharing it with Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys was delightful.

The wonderful thing about a mystery is that you are given little bits of information in a venue of intrigue, and through those bits of information, added to as the story unfolds, you can understand an event that took place, or a great truth that is not easily understood, and it all comes to perfect clarity. The “Mystery” of the New Testament is very much the same.

Although the Mystery was in God from the beginning of time it was revealed in a time when the church of Jesus Christ was being birthed and Christians were being persecuted and killed for their faith. Disciples were reaching out to new areas, sharing the word of the Gospel to all who would hear and being imprisoned and tortured for their determination. It was an extremely difficult and exciting time for all involved. New hope was being shared and lives were being changed by the words of those who were willing to place their lives in danger to bring the truth. They brought the secret to the Mystery (Rom 16:25-17).

This Mystery, shared within the precious Gospel, was a truth undiscoverable, except by revelation (Mark 4:11). A truth shared by Jesus to his Disciples and sent into all the world (Mark 16:15). A truth rejected by the Jews of the time, the chosen people of God, not willing to believe that there would be any other people that could ever be as precious to God as they were. A truth revealed that the gentile, the non-Jew, were as precious and loved by God as the Jewish people that He brought into existence and walked daily with, bringing them out of Egyptian slavery, across the wilderness and where He provided for their every need, both on the slave side – wilderness side – and promised side of their lives.

This Mystery, held in secret until a group of people were prepared to place their lives at odds to share it, had been in the heart of God from the beginning of time (Eph 3:9, Eph 6:19-20). A Mystery that says we are ALL precious in His sight (John 3:15-16). A Mystery that says that no matter where you have been, no matter what you have done, God stands waiting for you (Acts 3:19). Anyone, who is willing is welcome to receive the gift of the Mystery – any age, race, creed, conviction, or historical behaviors – all are welcomed into the gift of the Mystery and can become the Children of God. This is, by far, the greatest Mystery of the Bible.

There are other Mysteries in the Bible: The Bride of Christ (Eph 5:30-32), the Wedding Supper of the Lamb (Rev 29:9), the Seven Stars and the Seven Candlesticks (Rev 1:20), and the Woman Clothed in Scarlet (Rev 17:1-7). But of all of the Mysteries, knowing that I am fully accepted and loved by God, born a gentile and of low esteem, is an amazing feeling. Yet, going further, Ephesians 1:9 doesn’t just mention the Mystery, it also mentions that He revealed the Mystery of “His Will” according to “His Good Pleasure” which He has “Purposed in Himself”. He made me a part of His Mystery for His joy, not just for mine.

Thank you Lord for the unraveling of Your Mystery. Thank You for making me fully Yours. Help me to share the revelation of Your gift so that all can receive the love You have been wanting to show them. Glory!

Prophecy Is A Living Word

8 Dec

He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.” Matthew 10:41-42 KJV

As I was in prayer this morning I was thinking about the prophetic words that I had been given over my Christian walk. Some I have copies of, some I have brief notes of what I could remember, and some are just a brief memory of something spoken a very long time ago.

During my recent move I came upon the front pages of my very first Bible, the one that disintegrated after a few years from being read and read and read and only having a paper cover with a glued binding. I thought I had kept the entire Bible, but I only found the front pages. The treasures of those years were encapsulated there; the date I dedicated my life to following Christ, the date I was baptized, the date I received the Holy Spirit, and four notes about prophetic words that I had been given during that period of time. What a precious gift of a time far past and quite faded in my memory.

I transferred the information into my big study Bible – the one with all the underlining, notes in the margins, sticky notes peeking out of the pages, the 10 book marks of special passages, the folded prayers stuffed between, and the pictures of my kids with prayers written on the back. Yes, that Bible. We all have one of those. That one thing that we always know where it is, just in case of a fire, because that will always be the one thing to surely to go out the door.

As I was talking to the Lord this morning I was pondering those old prophetic messages and the subject they discussed that I haven’t continued with over the last 10+ years. I wondered whether I had lost the chance for those words, spoken 30 years ago, to every possibly come to be now. Had I lost my chance with the passage of time. Had I lost my chance with tarnished skills? Had I let God down by not heeding what He had encouraged? Then Hebrews 4:12 came to me:

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 KJV

I asked God if the Prophetic Word was only for a season, or if I was truly receiving His word and His thoughts with the full intent of my heart, would it for a lifetime? For my lifetime? Or is it only for specific settings, for instance the setting it was given in, or does it adjust itself to whatever setting God has sent me into? I know that the words of the Prophet are given to them then the Holy Spirit fills their mouths with the words meant for the receiver. I know that the words of God are never null and void, but will accomplish the task given, IF the receiver will step forward in faith.

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11 KJV

It came to me that God’s Word, spoken by the prophets, are Living Words, intended to come into fruition. As long as the receiver will continue to believe those words spoken over them – they will remain alive. I am so thankful that we have a God who cares about us so deeply that He never tires of us asking and questioning and wanting to know the full truth of all that He has for us – if we will only ask.

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Jeremiah 33:3 KJV

THANK GOD

16 Sep

“Surely “the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.”  Psalm 140:13 KJV

In the sunrise, in the clouds above,

In the gentle lifting movement of a dove.

In the quiet of a sweet sleeping child,

Thank God, Thank God.

In the Stillness of a star filled sky,

In the company of loved ones on a cold night.

In the riches and the fullness of life,

Thank God, Thank God.

Thank God, Thank God,

For the blessings brought before us everyday.

For the wonders and the peace in our hearts,

Thank God, Thank God.

For the Spirit, in the hungry soul,

For the Words of truth that teach us of His love.

In the fire, when the pulpit explodes.

Thank God, Thank God.

In the filling of a new born child,

In the words and tongues of Angels spoken prayerfully,

For the moments when He calls out your name,

Thank God, Thank God.

RELEASE

14 Sep

“And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:47 KJV

Rise up my bride, soil not your gown.

Release the sword from your delicate fingers.

Rest in peace as I stand guard.

Your war is finished, the battle finally won.

Now the chamber waits with sweet fragrances

Of sanctioned prayers,

Washed clean with bottled tears.

Step up with me,

Safe within my arms,

In the place you never doubted would come.

Today we stand as one,

Faith upon Faith,

Truth within Truth,

Life into Eternity.

HOLD US CLOSE

12 Apr

“And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?”  Luke 24:32

We come to you, Oh, Lord,

Our hearts we open wide,

Sweet angels guide us home,

Through prayer we’re safe inside.

Keep hunger in our souls,

Sweet fillings every day,

We’ll gently teach your Word,

And live you ways.

Please hold us close, Oh, Lord,

The way is dark and steep,

We comfort in Your love,

With joy we weep.

Please walk with us, Oh Lord,

You’ve sent us to the world;

Their lives are dark and lost,

We’re here to stop their hurt.

Put mercy in our souls,

Your perfect love we seek;

For danger stands nearby,

Each time we speak.

We represent Your truths,

Our Joy must never dim;

That all may want to know,

The peace within.

We drink Your word, Oh Lord,

Our hearts and souls are filled.

Your teachings guide our steps,

Our fears and hurts are stilled.

We come in daily prayer,

Our vigils never cease.

We gladly intercede,

To bring our brothers peace.

Please guide each step, Oh Lord,

To keep our witness true,

Your Spirit lights our path,

Each faithful step renews.

Forsaking the Call

5 Apr

But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.   Matthew 18:6

There are times in every person’s life when difficult decisions have to be made, knowing that those decisions will affect the lives of many others. When we are called to the faith we are to prefer others above ourselves and accommodate others, knowing that God will accommodate us.

Most recently I have observed brothers of the faith making decisions that were intended to destroy the character of another strong Christian. False truths and innuendo have been stated and spread to cover the true reason behind the attack – financial gain and career advancement.

I was contemplating a way to expose the ploy and show the true colors of those involved, but I hear the voice of God very clearly . . . “vengeance is mine.”

It is bad enough that friendships have been destroyed and jobs have been lost for others to gain power and finance. It’s terrible that integrity has been tarnished and respect destroyed. Now, when they least expect it, God’s anger and punishment will fall. What sacrifice this? Will there be restoration? Will trust ever be regained? Will opportunities be lost forever?

As believers, we are called to a higher standard of integrity, a higher obligation NOT to walk in worldly ways. When taking on the mantle of Pastor, that obligation massively multiplies. People are watching. Christians are disdained in general for the faults of a few. Shame falls on the family of God.

Lord, let me always be aware of the people and circumstances around me that I might not make a choice what would push others farther away from You. I never want to experience your vengeance; only your grace and love.

The Mother

22 Dec

“… how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings…” Luke 13:34

A belt of Gold brings together

A Garment of Praise,

Purple and Azure,

And a covering of Righteousness

White and Pure.

A Crown of Royalty rests on her Head,

Wrapped in Purple,

Yet unadorned,

For the Wedding Day has not yet come.

Majestic Arms,

Strong and Firm,

Reach out to the Nations,

Then gather back together the wounded and grieved,

In a warm embrace.

Standing firm,

On a strong foundation,

Not gilded or adorned with useless jewelry,

Set soundly on a true doctrine,

That none may cover.

She pours out the sustenance needed,

To strengthen the Saints of God.

One vessel holding the Priest’s share of the sacrifices,

Brought to the Brazen Altar,

Given graciously to those who hunger.

One vessel holds the precious food of the Spirit,

The Word of God,

Served to build the body of faith.

Eyes keenly upon the task at hand,

Not to the left or the right.

Face radiant with the glory of God,

Anointed to shepherd the people,

Those unwanted by the church of glass and velvet,

Those needing the foundation and guidance,

To heal.

The hand of the 5-fold ministry,

Carefully pours the anointing out,

To those appointed to fulfill the need.

The Mother,

The Church,

Will rise,

Bearing the vessels of truth and righteousness,

On its shoulders,

Looking for a people, to dip and drink.

It will rise in strength and confidence,

Knowing her place.

Only setting her work aside,

For a moment,

That moment when she embraces her children,

Blessing them and sending them forward,

To find their place.

Then lifting her vessels again,

Placing them firmly upon her shoulders,

She presses onward.

KNEEL WITH US

22 Dec

O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.” Psalm 95:6

As we come to You,

We seek the truth,

Our open hearts we give.

We lift our hands,

And take a stand,

in righteousness to live.

Help us speak for You,

In all we do,

Your words of peace we share.

Please hold us near,

And calm our fears,

And kneel with us in prayer.

Lord, we teach Your word,

Your truths are heard,

We walk in love and faith.

We share Your ways,

For strength we pray,

We’ve learned to kneel and wait.

Keep us in Your will,

Our own thoughts stilled,

Our old ways changed to new.

Please keep us close,

At any cost,

Our mind on only You.

 Lord, we lift our hands,

In love we stand,

A shout of faith we raise.

We reach to You,

Your touch renews,

Our words are songs of praise.

Seeking to be filled,

To know Your will,

Fills every waking hour.

Please touch our souls,

And let us know,

Your mercy, strength and power.

HUMBLE DILIGENCE

15 Dec

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Matthew 5:18

Against hardened hearts,

practiced tradition,

perverse generations,

– You stand.

Humble, yet determined,

Diligent, yet patient,

Tender, yet firm,

– You stand.

Weeping for souls lost in unbelief,

Weeping for generations to come,

following the curse of their father,

Weeping for each and every battle

that you are not prayed into.

Weeping for the souls that will not cry out,

– You stand.

Your Word does not change,

Your love, everlasting,

Your message is open and free,

You are life,

You are joy,

You are peace,

– You stand.

Diligently waiting,

– You stand.

Tenderly calling,

– You stand.

Lovingly listening,

– You stand.

Standing on truth,

Standing on the Word,

Standing on the side,

Waiting,

– For Me.
